I loved the shared kitchen and lounge area at Escape Backpackers KK. It felt like a bustling little community hub where you could mingle with fellow travelers and share stories over a delicious breakfast. The buffet spread was so satisfying that I felt like I was feasting at a fancy restaurant, but without the hefty bill!

The owner was incredibly nice and helpful, giving us amazing suggestions for activities in the area. The location was mind-blowing, surrounded by eateries, markets, and bars. The breakfast was super, with a different variety every day. The beds were in small cocoons with curtains and had plugs and lamps, making it jaw-droppingly comfortable. A great place to meet other backpackers and feel at home.

The location of the hostel was perfect, as it was just a short distance away from popular attractions such as Karamunsing Capital and Imago Shopping Mall. The convenience of having these places nearby made exploring the city a breeze. Plus, with Kota Kinabalu Central Market also nearby, I could indulge in some delicious local cuisine without having to venture too far.

Great location near supermarkets, restaurants, and entertainment. Close to Centre Point, self-service laundry, night market, and Philippine Market. Perfect for solo backpackers. Friendly staff who give helpful suggestions on tourism and travel. Clean and well-maintained bathrooms. Good wifi strength. Decent and filling free breakfast.
Bed bugs were a severe problem, causing severe irritation of the skin. Smoking is allowed everywhere, so the air quality can be unpleasant.

I had the most incredible experience at Escape Backpackers Kk! From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel like part of their big family. They were so helpful and gave me excellent recommendations for exploring the area. I met amazing people during my stay, and each day was filled with laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments. The location was perfect, with supermarkets, restaurants, and entertainment just a stone's throw away. The privacy curtains in the dorms were a great touch, and the plug socket by the bed made charging my devices convenient.
Although there were a few minor drawbacks, like the occasional pungent smell in the smoking area and the limited number of showers, these didn't overshadow the overall fantastic experience. My stay at Escape Backpackers Kk was imperfectly perfect.

They took the time to chat with us, introduce us to other guests, and made us feel like part of the family. the breakfast was a highlight, with delicious local home-cooked dishes prepared by the manager himself. It truly felt like a home away from home. the location of the accommodation was also convenient, within walking distance of the port and main streets.

Each room at Escape Backpackers KK is equipped with a safety deposit box, which made me feel secure and at ease during my stay. It was comforting to know that my valuables were well-protected.
Personally, I found the bed linen provided in all rooms to be a little scratchy. But hey, everyone's preferences are different, so some might still find it cozy enough.

My stay at Escape Backpackers was a unique and amazing experience! The staff, including Auntie Fay, Judith, and Valerie, were kind. The hostel offered great deals on activities, allowing me to explore the jungle, swim with jellyfish, and enjoy stunning sunsets in Kota Kinabalu. The owner was fantastic, always looking after me and providing helpful recommendations. The breakfast, cooked by the manager himself, felt like a home-cooked meal. The open kitchen allowed for self-cooking, and there were even two adorable cats to pet. a memorable stay!
I would definitely recommend this hotel.
